James Heston, Partner
James was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. James graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1988 with a degree in business administration, specializing in finance. James then went on to attend and graduate from Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California. While in law school, James interned for both a federal bankruptcy judge in Los Angeles and the Texas Supreme Court.
After graduating from Pepperdine, James moved to Houston and founded The Heston Law Firm, a consumer law firm concentrating in bankruptcy.
James is a proud member of both the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the Houston Association of Debtor’s Attorneys and the Bankruptcy Law Sections of both the American Bar Association and the Texas Bar.
In 2006, James partnered with Daniel Ciment and expanded the focus of the firm from just bankruptcy law to its current, much broader orientation of debt relief law. In his career as a debt relief lawyer, James has helped over 10,000 Texans resolve their debts either through bankruptcy, debt settlement, or debt lawsuit defense.
Daniel Ciment, Partner
Daniel was born in Augusta, Georgia but he didn’t spend much time there as his father was in the Army and they moved to Germany shortly after he was born. Daniel graduated from The University of Texas in 2000 with a BA in Government and a minor in Psychology. Daniel then attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas.
Daniel started a collection agency after graduating from law school in 2003. Daniel had over 60 debt collectors working for him, calling debtors all over the country to collect on unpaid debts. Daniel also filed lawsuits for unpaid debts all over the state of Texas.
Then in 2005, Daniel opened the Houston office for a nationwide consumer bankruptcy firm named Macey & Aleman. Shortly thereafter Daniel became a partner with the firm and was in charge of the Houston, San Antonio and Austin offices.
Daniel is a proud father of 3 beautiful children, 7 year old twin girls and a 3 year old son. When Daniel is not working or playing with his kids he enjoys hunting, fishing and cigars.
Daniel is a member of both the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the Houston Association of Debtor’s Attorneys and the National Association of Consumer Advocates. Daniel is a member of the Bankruptcy and Consumer Law Sections of both the American Bar Association and the Texas Bar and he is a member of the Texas Young Lawyers Association.
In 2006, Daniel partnered with James Heston and used his unique experience from being on the creditor’s side to expand the focus of James’ firm from just bankruptcy law to its current, much broader orientation of debt relief law. As a debt attorney, Daniel has extensive knowledge of debt collection laws and procedures from both the creditor and the consumer side.
R. Scott Calili – Sr. Attorney
Scott joined the firm in 2017 to lead the firm’s expansion into the areas of real estate, construction and commercial litigation. He graduated from the Austin Graduate School of Theology in 1999 and then attended and graduated from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 2003 and started his litigation career at the firm of Roberts Markel in Houston shortly thereafter. After leaving Roberts Markel, Scott started working with various oil companies in crisis management, environmental litigation and commercial litigation.
Scott had his own practice from 2008 until 2016, representing investors and business owners in private commercial transactions and representing Homeowners Associations in the pursuit of delinquent assessments and enforcement of deed restrictions. Scott has extensive knowledge of real estate law, including the rights of homeowners that are facing enforcement and collection actions from the HOAs, as well as the rights and duties of landlords and tenants in both residential and commercial capacities and the rights and duties of professional construction contractors, property owners, and third-party financing companies. Scott has worked with investors, entrepreneurs, boards of directors and senior level executives in various stages of company growth and formation, and he is an effective advocate for either side of a commercial or consumer contract dispute.
Scott is a Lifetime Member of the Houston Gaelic Athletic Club, the Houston Gaels, an Irish sporting and cultural organization that is part of the worldwide GAA, and he currently serves as the Irish Language and Culture Officer for the club, as well as participating as a player on the development team, and he also donates his time to the Irish Network of Houston and participates in the activities of the William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
